As they have a comprehensive working relationship, they are running as a team.
Hannah Seymour and Eden Haythornthwaite are incumbent trustees while Duncan Brown is campaigning for the first time.

Duncan and Eden are running under the Community Alliance for Public Education (CAPE) and Hannah is running as an independent community candidate.

Their program highlights the following:

Cowichan Deserves Trustees Who Will Fight for Our Schools

  • Community Built Budgets for Full Public Funding
  • Democratic Governance and Collaborative Management
  • Thoughtful and Inclusive Classroom Conditions for Students, Families and Staff

Duncan Brown is the chair of the Community Alliance for Public Education (CAPE). In addition, he is a Director on the Board of the Charter for Public Education as well as an active member of the Lake Cowichan Ratepayers.

“I have worked for the school district in Cowichan as an electrician for over 20 years and represented my union (USW) membership on school board committees. On those committees, I have always fought for full funding, open governance and progressive educational opportunities. Now it is time to take my efforts and experience to the board table.”

Eden Haythornthwaite has served six years as a school board trustee. Eden also sits as a Director on the Board of the Charter for Public Education. During her time as a trustee, Eden provided regular reports on school board activities in the form of her ‘Diary of a Mad Trustee’ which can be found at capeincowichan.bc.ca.

“After two terms as a trustee in Cowichan, this is the time to step up the campaign to create public education budgets which reflect the priorities of all our communities. That has always been and remains my dream and my work.”

Hannah Seymour has served as school board trustee in Cowichan for three years. Prior to that, Hannah was the Parent Advisory Council Chair of Koksilah School and stood with her community in opposition to 2 school district attempts to close that school. Hannah has been a determined advocate for small schools and full funding as PAC Chair and parent and as a trustee.

“I am excited about returning to the board table after the election to work for our students, their families and our schools. Standing up for excellent learning conditions is the most important factor in my work as a trustee.”
